I was employed at a hospital for many years, working as a nursing assistant and caring for patients with varying degrees of mental health problems. The wards I worked on were mainly caring for the elderly. I have experience in lifting and handling, personal care and bathing. Because of the experience I gained at the hospital, I was able to care for my mum in her own home, she was suffering from vascular dementia. I did this for the last four years, until she passed away in February of this year. I enjoy caring, I believe people should be treat with dignity and respect at all times. I don't think the individual always receives this in care/nursing homes, due to inexperienced staff. I cared for mum in her own home for my peace of mind and knowing she could be well cared for
