I used to work in older people mental health care from 2001-2007 first as a bank nursing assistant then later as an occupational therapy assistant. I worked with clients with organic dementia illnesses as well as with functional illnesses such as psychotic depressions. I very much enjoyed working with a dedicated and compassionate team as well as with the older generation as they have so much to teach. I particularly enjoyed group work games such as reminiscence and gentle physical activities to keep the clients stimulated mentally and also to maintain their physical output which always helped with their behaviour and mood on the ward.
