Hi, I got into care work as soon as I left school I have worked in a care home for 14 years, i started off as a carer and worked my way up to a senior Carer position, which i really enjoyed my role was dealing with doctors, nurses, administering, checking and re ordering medication for the residents. Dealing with dementia patients, relatives. Writing care plans I managed the staff on duty and had to make sure everything had been done correctly I worked 12 hr shifts. I have my nvq 2 and 3 a level 3 in first aid and level 2 in food hygiene. I then got pregnant and had a little girl, returned to work and 6 weeks later found out I was pregnant again my girls are now 3 and 4 years old. I'm still in the care home but fancied a change in job when the kitchen manager job came up I went for it and have been the head cook for 2 years now preparing meals and menus for the residents also catering for diabetics, special diets e.g fork mashable, pureed diet. I enjoy working and work there 40 hours a week. My 2 girls will soon be in full time school so I'm looking for something extra to do with my Time and to help others also to get back into a bit of care work something different from a care home setting.
