I have 2 years experience in looking after my grandparents who both suffered with dementia. When my grand father died I became my grandmother full time cater, companion and best friend. I was there to meet all of her hygiene, medical, social needs. I enjoyed listening to her stories, I loved the feeling of satisfaction I got from seeing her happy after I’d helped her get into her favourite nightie, or the excitement in her eyes as she would repeat to me stories she’d told many times before. I felt satisfied that I was helping her live out the last of her days in comfort and peace.
