I went into care for the elderly because I have a strong sense of empathy for older people and their families. I helped look after my grandad while he was terminally ill and it encouraged me even more to pursue a career with elderly and helping them to stay as independent as possible, helping them to feel confident and feel like they are able to rely on me and trust me in supporting them. I have a background of working in care this includes - care in home, residential homes, and nursing homes. I have worked with elderly with complex health and mental health problems. I have worked with many people with dementia and Alzheimer’s which I believe after many years of experience I have a strong understanding of these diagnoses and how they can be managed. I have previously administered medication, personal care, manual handling, shopping errands, managing money, assisted to appointments, provided support with meals and cleaning, helped with gardening, companionship, made appropriate referrals if needed, had communicated with third parties in regards to care or appointments and engaged with families to include them in the care their family member is receiving.
