I graduated from Roehampton University in July 2020 with a 2:1 in Therapeutic Psychology. I also have 2 years experience working at Sailsbury District Hospital on the Engage Program. This initiative works with elderly patients who have become institutionalised following long periods of time in hospital with limited involvement or interaction with the outside world. As a volunteer, I would sit with the patients, sometimes just holding their hand, playing games, or reading to them. This work gave me a newfound respect for the elderly and an understanding of the challenges that can present later in life. It also gave me an awareness of the lack of counselling provision for this demographic. This saddens me because I believe therapy could be really impactful in helping the elderly make the most of their later years.
