I have worked in childcare for the past 21 years. I have looked after children aged newborn-16yrs, worked in playgroups, nurseries and a secondary school and nannied for twins. In 2008 I trained to become a maternity nurse looking after premature twins, twins, newborns when the mother was in hospital with PND and mothers having to go back to hospital due to infection- as well as many mainstream roles. I thoroughly enjoy my role working within a profession with parents and children of all stages of parenthood, assisting new parents in helping take care for their babies and helping/teaching them how to feed and develop during a vital stage of parenthood. I enjoy working with mothers in the very important, but sometimes neglected role, in society of being a ‘new’ mother. In the initial stages of becoming a parent, it is important to instil confidence and provide support and advise. My role is to be a nurturer, confidant, nurse, teacher and advocate for both family and baby. As a parent, I acknowledge the many struggles of parenthood and revel in the role of the support of this. Families, I believe, are the back bone of society and I appreciate the opportunity to be involved in someone else’s, as their support system.
