I have wanted to care for people for as long as I can remember. My sister, Lucy was born with Severe learning difficulties, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and epilepsy. Even as a small child I made it my business to get involved in every element of her care and when i was older and had my own home, she spent a few days/nights a week at mine to give my mum some respite. I have worked as a carer for children since leaving school, varying from the ages of 0-14 years and with numerous special needs. Working on a 1-1 basis to build a positive relationship, encouraging the development of their relationships with others by teaching them to be patient and understanding Helping to assist with homework assignments and projects, helping to promote language skills through reading and storytelling Driving or walking children to and from school, after school activities Bottle feeding, weaning and later, making healthy meals and snacks, involving the children when possible to encourage the knowledge of nutrition and safe food preparation Working in partnership with the parents, school and other childcare professionals to best manage a child's Autism, severe behavioural difficulties, as well as his adoption story.
