I work hard to be consistent with not only daily schedules, but also with our interactions so that the child feels safe knowing how I will respond to them no matter the situation. By clearly communicating expectations, holding firm boundaries, implementing consistent daily routines, and modeling emotional regulation, children will feel safe within this predictable structure to freely explore, grow, test boundaries, and express themselves authentically. As a leader it is my responsibility to model emotional regulation and support children by fully accepting all of their emotions. Although the techniques I use may be family specific, my core approach of being a confident leader who focuses on building an authentic, supportive, loving, and secure relationship with the child never wavers.
