I had a placement at a care home and nursery where I was proud to receive the star award acknowledging my excellent work ethic. This has allowed me to enhance my knowledge and skills surrounding care of the older adults and young children. I pride myself in having great interpersonal skills. During my placements, I was able to communicate effectively by using an empathetic and sensitive approach whilst considering their individual needs. I especially enjoyed caring for a boy who had special needs; he would sing various songs to me and would smile and laugh with enjoyment. I met his personal needs through utilising my verbal and non-verbal communication skills. I can work all shifts with flexibility to meet the needs of the job. Although I’m enjoying learning the new role as a peer support worker in the community, I feel that this experience will allow me to grow both personally and professionally.
