From gaining my HNC I went on to work as a play leader at Tumble tots, I was involved in supporting children in order to develop physical skills. These skills where developed through the use of brightly coloured gymnastic equipment. Weekly I was involved in planning fun, exciting, challenging and safe sessions ensuring I was planning to accommodate different ages and stages.
I have now moved on to work for Early Days private nursery. For my first year working here I was placed as a key member in the pre school room. I was responsible for 10 key children, through the this I had responsibilities of working alongside the curriculum for excellence, providing welfare and well being for all key children and appropriate care packages to meet individual needs. I have experience in working closely with families helping to provide support, being approachable and having a warm welcome face for them to approach at any time with any concerns they may have. I also had duties which included being a mentor for students who come on placement this has gave me great experience in providing support and also being able to share my own experience in order to help them develop and learn within the work place. I was responsible for keeping key children's personal learning plans up to date, at the start of my first year this was all done using a folder which contained all the right information that was needed. My work place has now started using online journals, I am now very confident using the online journals. I have gained experience and knowledge in daily, weekly and monthly planning, I am involved in all planning meetings and will input using curriculum for excellence/pre birth to three (depending on age group). I am confident in planning for transitions, using transition reports, providing programmes and support for children, mostly confident with transitions where the child is new to the nursery, moving rooms (toddlers to pre school) and children going from pre school to school. I am helpful and confident when working alongside parents and carers I have developed this confidence through attending parent committee meetings, staff and parent events and meeting patents individually.
I then applied internally and went through the recruitment process and was promoted to room supervisor in the toddler room which I have been doing for my second year at Early Days.
I am able to work alongside the building ambition tools and implement them into my work routine.
As a child I took part in various types of dance and then went on to teach in my spare time. I now implement dance activities in daily, weekly and monthly planning within my setting and would be more than happy to do this with all children I work with in the future.
I am registered with East Lothian council supply list. I have covered various amounts of supply work including nursery nurse and pupil assistant for high school students working towards the first level of a childcare course.
I am now currently working towards a BA in childhood practice at Glasgow university which I attend once a month.
I consider myself to be understanding, flexible, confident and I am able to work within professional boundaries.
