Over the past 7 years I have worked with children from the ages of 6 weeks - 12 years. In my most recent role as a Nanny, I cared for two children under 5 and have been with the family for 3 years. During this time, I have helped the children through many key developmental stages such as weaning, learning to walk, encouragement and promotion of speech and potty training. I began this role as a Mothers Help to assist with a newborn, but my main role was to care for the eldest child who has additional support needs. As part of this role, I have been trained in using a Feeding Pump, checking blood glucose levels (which as a Type 1 Diabetic I have an in-depth knowledge of) and injecting and administering medication through a gastrostomy tube. Following the mothers return to work after maternity leave, I was solely responsible for the children during the day. This involved caring for both children, planning and taking them to indoor and outdoor activities as well as identifying and attending organized clubs and groups. At present, the daily routine involves looking after the youngest child throughout the day, whilst dropping off and collecting the eldest from nursery.
