I have three children, and loved being at home with them until my youngest child started school in 2012, when I began to consider a future career in Midwifery. With this in mind I studied Access to Nursing and Midwifery at college, and volunteered with The Volunteer Doula Project. During my time as a volunteer I became aware of my current role as an Infant Feeding Peer Support Worker, and decided to pursue this. I have now worked in this role for eight years. This role, and my volunteer experience, have enabled me to develop a good understanding of baby and child development, and the confidence and compassion to support and advocate for others when needed. Prior to having my children I worked as a nanny (both daily and live-in) for three families with children ranging from six months to 11 years.
My children are now 17, 18 and 24. My youngest child is Autistic and was home educated (by a combination of myself and private tutors) from age 12-16 years. This experience demonstrated the importance of patience and effective communication. Having a neurodiverse family (my husband and middle child have ADHD) has helped me develop skills with understanding, and being kind and compassionate to others.
