Elderly Care Jobs in Ilminster

We are looking for a kind, calm, and practical live-in carer for a period of two weeks to help our parents, who are in their late 80s/early 90s and who have until now been living independently at home. Specifically, the help is for our father, who is returning home after several weeks in hospital following a major operation. He can currently get in and out of bed and in out of chairs (with a little bit of help) and can walk short distances with a frame. He has access to a stairlift but may need help operating it (it was installed last year as a precaution but has never been used). He will be leaving hospital with a DTA (discharge to assess) package and will have visits from specialist nurses and carers during this period. He is likely to also receive an adjustable hospital bed during this period. We are looking for someone who can provide the following backup between these visits: - to help with daily routines such as getting washed and dressed in the mornings, going downstairs and upstairs, getting in and out of chairs, getting to and from the toilet, moving between rooms and getting to bed at night - Helping and providing encouragement with exercises provided by the physios, and making sure these are done regularly and consistently - To help the patient get used to living with a stoma and changing and disposing of colostomy bags - to be available at night in case of emergencies (hopefully unlikely) - to help with some domestic duties, including changing/washing soiled bed linen & clothing /taking out the rubbish & recycling once a week and potentially helping with cooking/shopping/keeping an eye on the fridge. There will be regular visits from a tissue viability nurse to care for a specialist wound dressing, and stoma nurses to help the patient manage the stoma. - The ideal candidate would have some experience of looking after clients with stomas, and/or be willing to learn from the visiting nurse how to provide support. - They will have experience of working with older clients. - A previous career / experience in nursing would be a great bonus. - Be willing to provide daily updates for our family. The care provider would have their own room and access to a separate bathroom and toilet. The house is surrounded by a beautiful old garden with ancient apple orchards and located in a small village with a lovely close-knit community of neighbours. It is a short drive from Ilminster.
