I've recently received a targeted carer's grant from Vocal to help me around my elderly mum. She is in relatively good health for an 80-year-old but has no English and sometimes finds it difficult to navigate the city on her own. She also suffers from vertigo so sometimes needs a companion to hold on to when experiencing a dizzy spell. Vocal has allocated a £700 grant from their Wee Breaks Edinburgh allowance to use in 2024 for paying hired companions to accompany her to events she would otherwise choose not to attend for fear of getting lost. All that is needed is someone to collect her from a pre-arranged place and take her to the destination. Or the reverse. Nothing else. They recommended a company called Home Instead that provides this service at a cost of £35 an hour but at a weekly minimum of 4 hours. That would only give me five weeks with four hours each week, something I don't really need. What I need is someone who'd be available once or twice a month between Feb 2024 and Nov 2024, ideally at a two- or three-days' notice, must be a Polish speaker, to provide such a service for my mum, rate negotiable. If the destination were a significant way away from the city centre I'd be happy to include the time of return journey in the final cost. I need to provide receipts for the service so I can't just use friends or friends of friends. I know it's a wee amount, but that's all I have. I hope there's somene here who can help (I'll need receipts though, must submit to Vocal)
