Elderly 87 year old male with dementia, but still socially active and mobile seeks a mature travel / outings companion carer, with a good sense of humor and life experience for 1 or 2 trips out and about per week of 2-4 hours duration. Dad likes all things trains, planes & automobiles and is keen on traditional Jazz music and Military History. Ideally trips around these special interests e.g Bournemouth area steam train, Fleet Air Arm Museum, Beaulieu Motor Museum, Jazz Concerts, Bovington Tank Museum, Royal Signals Blandford (dad was a Signals Despatch Rider on active service) etc weather permitting. A local coffee shop, tea room or lunch venue / daycentre etc and a topical chat about life experiences would be equally beneficial on days when a venue based outing is not practical. Dad is currently in a temporary care home until he can return home with live in care and needs outside social stimulation in the community on a regular basis which can continue indefinitely after he returns home. You must be flexible about session days / times to suit both parties and have your own transport (HMRC travel expenses @45p per mile paid)

Role: Self Employed Live-in ‘Companion Carer’ for an 87 year old male with mid phase Alzheimer’s dementia. You would be caring alongside another person on a mutually agreed rota basis eg 2/4/6 weeks on/off during waking hours 8am-8pm with a minimum of 2 hours off each day. There is currently no significant nighttime support and no intimate personal care required. Setting: A two bed semi detached house with newly decorated dedicated carer room and separate WC and shower room. Comprehensive mobility facilities include stairlift, large walk in shower, separate WC, electric riser recliner chairs, electric multi positional orthopaedic bed, dementia friendly CCTV app based security system (for monitoring external day / nighttime wandering. Duties: Administer am and pm meds with breakfast / evening meals & assist personal organisation and prompting getting up ready for the day and at bedtime. Help prepare light breakfasts and microwave ready meals and general housekeeping. Shopping, arranging appointments and accompanying with doctor, dentist and hospital, transporting and picking up from daycare centres. Days out and all activities associated with the day to day support and running of the household for an elderly male with dementia. Person: This role would suit a mature person with life experience and a keen understanding of dementia related care in the home. You must have a full driving licence and ideally your own vehicle, although transport can be arranged. Quals / qualities: Professional dementia related care experience gained in any care setting OR recent experience of providing care for an adult friend or family member. Plus a carer / companion approach to an elderly, outgoing, lively, good humoured, story telling dad with much still to give and live for! Compensation: A negotiable self employed weekly rate plus any cared for expenses will be reimbursed and HMRC approved mileage expenses Start date: Flexible start date subject to negotiation and rota agreement with the second Live-in carer References Background checks: An enhanced DBS disclosure, ID confirmation and drivers license with right to work in the U.K. documents, terms of business, carer insurance and 2 work based references.
