I started tutoring when I was in university; I had majored in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, or PPE, as well as Professional Writing, and I had a minor in East Asian Studies, and learned Chinese as a part of that. This gave me a very broad, interdisciplinary background, with valuable communication skills, to apply as a tutor. When I studied abroad in Chengdu, China, in 2015, I interned both at a law firm, and at an English training center. I had been planning to become a lawyer, but, at that time, I found that I really loved teaching more. After finishing my Bachelor's degree and getting a TEFL certificate, I began tutoring full time at Lingnan University in Hong Kong (2016), and then started teaching full time at Shenzhen Foreign Languages School from 2018 to 2022. My classes there focussed on critical thinking, reading, and writing skills through a bilingual approach. Last year, I quit my job as a teacher so I could move to Melbourne and begin my graduate studies at Monash University, but while I'm here, I would still love to earn some income and keep my teaching skills sharp.
