Enthusiastic, empathic and dynamic special needs carer, Eddy
|
Hi, my name is Eddy! I am a dedicated special education needs student from Germany. Currently, I am immersed in a semester at VU as part of my academic journey abroad, now in my fourth semester.
I started my special needs journey at the age of 16 with a voluntary social year at a school tailored to children with cognitive delays. For one and a half years, I dedicated myself to this role five days a week.
In 2021, I started working as at a school specifically tailored to children with motorical development challenges. Here, I assumed the role of a school companion for a student with the Angelman syndrome. My duties were multifaceted, including tasks such as escorting him to and from the bus, ensuring his nutritional needs were met, offering unwavering support in emotional regulation, and aiding him in various day-to-day activities.
With the start of October 2022, I commenced my formal studies in special needs education. However, my commitment to the well-being of the child I had supported persisted, as I continued to provide babysitting services for him and his two younger siblings until my departure for Australia.
