Looking for more experience to polish my skills as a child caregiver
|
I’ve had the opportunity to babysit my siblings, friends’ siblings and I’ve also volunteered at events where I supervised children. On top of that, I’ve gained valuable experience working at a retirement home, where I was in charge of serving breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. I also prepared and cooked meals in my chef shifts, cleaned the kitchen and dining area and was a part of the laundry staff where I washed, dried, folded and delivered the residents' clothes. Seeing the smiles on the people I have worked with and taken care of and knowing that I’ve made a difference to their day is the best feeling. The type of activities I would do with the children is first get to know what they would like to do, what their interests are. From my previous experiences taking care of children I would play dress up, learn their favourite songs and dances, baking and encourage them to make something creative with them (jewellery, art, scrapbooking), I would also style their hair (braiding, adding clips and ribbons), watch movies and TV shows, go out to the park, activity places such as basketball court, tennis court, bowling and etc.
