I graduated with my M.S. in Applied Mathematics in December 2009. I love working with others and helping them learn new things. I feel that a comfortable setting to work in, is one of the keys to success for any student. I can adapt my methods of teaching to your needs, as I have much experience working with so many different groups of people.
I have been tutoring since my sophomore year of high school, working with my peers who were having trouble in math classes. I taught summer school classes at Lowell Catholic High School in Lowell, MA for grades 9-11 in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. I worked with RPI Tutor Time, where I tutored students in grades K-9 with various subjects. I also worked with the America Counts Program in Math B classes at Troy High School in Troy, NY. In this program, I worked with students in Math B to help them gain a more solid understanding of the Mathematics learned in this class.
I have also worked with special needs children at Merrimack Education Collaborative in Chelmsford, MA. While working here, I helped these students learn vital life skills in order to be able to become contributing members of the community.
I was also a Teaching Assistant in RPI's Department of Mathematical Sciences for Calculus 1 and 2 classes. I taught smaller classes of about 30 to 35 students by myself, reviewing what is learned in lecture with the professor, and helping the students learn key calculus concepts.
I have been working through various tutoring services for over a year now, and I love every minute of working with these students! Everyone has their own way of learning things, and so everyone needs things explained in different ways. Working with such a wide range of people has allowed me the opportunity to see the subjects I tutor in many different lights. Some people gain knowledge visually, others audibly, and others in a hands on setting. There is always a way to make that light bulb turn on!
