This post is on foods that are high in salycylates and must be avoided.

The info in this post was gotten from: The Feingold Program, Wikipedia, http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/skin-care-products and Nutritional Healing.

Salycylates or salycylic acid is naturally found in foods, it is a plant hormone. Salycylates are to be avoided by people with symptoms of adhd, some people have sensitivies to salycylates, adhd or not. (This is my son's Achilles' heel, literally: he loves fruit, especially grapes, high in salycylates and this triggers his adhd symptoms bad.)

Fruits in which salycylates are naturally occurring and to be avoided:

almonds, apples, apricots, berries (all), cherries, chili powder, cloves, coffee, cucumbers & pickles, currants, grapes & raisins, nectarines, oranges, paprika, peaches, peppers (bell & chili), plums & prunes, tangerines, tea, tomatoes, wine & wine vinegar, oil of wintergreen, rosehips.

Aspirin and any and all medication containing aspirin should be avoided. Salycylates are anti-inflammatory and fever reducing.

BHA: beta-hydroxy acid, a form of salycylate, is often found in cosmetics and shampoos to treat dandruff.

So exactly what do you feed your kid? This wipes out a whole lot of options.
