Dale Swift, the founder of the company, and Lauren Swift, her daughter and partner in the company, currently provide in-your-home pet sitting, pet and basic home care, dog walking and overnights with pet(s) in Montgomery County, MD where we work as a team, and in NYC, where Lauren resides.

Dale and her family lost their beloved mixed breed street-rescue dog, Hercky (at age 14, due to hemangiosarcoma: cancer of the lining of the blood vessels) soon after Dale retired from being a professional writer. The family was devastated. Dale wanted to memorialize her beloved dog, and tribute her wonderful bond with Herc through caring for other pets. Her grief and loss became the impetus for Dale to pursue her long-held dream of starting a pet-sitting business.

Three months after Hercky's death, Dale took an SBA course in starting a small business, and began her learning process about professional pet care, taking a pet sitter job. In 2008, Dale earned her American Red Cross Pet First Aid Certificate to provide basic lifesaving care to pets in an emergency situation. In May, she began taking her first customers as The Pet Nanny. The Pet Nanny became so busy by 2009 that Dale enlisted her daughter's help part-time. Lauren became her business partner months later, and established a NYC branch in 2010.

Lauren Swift's love of animals began as a child and has never waned. Lauren grew up learning to care for pets through her mother's guidance, and developing close spiritual bonds with each. As a New Yorker for the past 22 years, Lauren first began volunteering for no-kill rescue/shelters while in college at Parsons with Mighty Mutts in 1998 & B.A.R.C. in 2000. Involvement in the Humane Society, int'l rescue online communities, and organizations, among other advocacy groups for animal welfare, rescue, stable permanent adoption came after. Lauren strives to continuously bring awareness, and inspire conscious, responsible, loving attitudes around valuing animals well-beings and promoting pet rescue over breeding among clients and friends!
