Penciltopia is a stop-action animation program for children. Stop-action is a wildly rewarding and rigorous medium that enables children to learn to tell a story visually. From writing a script, to building sets to modeling characters out of clay, kids are active participants in the film making process from start to finish. Penciltopia was created in 2003 by Lindsay G., a certified art teacher in Brooklyn, NY. She created the program, which was named after the first animated film she made with children, to develop and integrate visual and verbal literacy in children. After 6 years of teaching and running the program in NYC, Lindsay is excited to expand Penciltopia to Philadelphia! Penciltopia is currently offering stop-action animation classes for individuals or small groups, in a school or private setting. With Penciltopia, students have created 10 minute long "feature films," as well as series of short films using a variety of materials. We can help children to create original school presentations, video essays or animated video greeting cards and invitations, and we love to collaborate on any video project you have in mind!
