Anger / frustration

Hello everyone My 10 years old daughter medication was changed from 15mg adderall to 20mg adderall and from 2mg intivitu to 1mg intivitu. Since the change she gets angry very easily, slamming doors, throwing or kcking anything within her reach, and screaming from just asking her to brush her teeth, take a shower, homework or any minor request. Today, we went to see her docter and he added Abilify which makes a third medicine she has to take. I don't really want her to take a third medicine, but I don't know how to get her anger under control before she hurt herself. I was wondering if anyone has experience this behavior or any suggestion is helpful. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.

Hello Everly, I so understand your stress. I have a 16year old son and a 12 year old grandaughter with ADHD. We have tried tons of different medications. I am suprised your 10 year old is on adderall. My son has tried the Intivitu recently (Dec. 2010) we did the gradual up along with Seraquel XR 150 mg. We did not make it past the 2 mg because it made him sleep too much. The Seraquel helped alot with his sleep and anger. We were on the Abilify 15mg at bedtime. I am not your physician, but I am like you in not wanting alot of meds for my child. My granddaughter recently went from Vyvanse back to Strattera and Resterol at night for her anger. Her mother added Spark (you add it to a drink). Perhaps a cocktail change from the Adderall to another option. When it is wearing off, it may be causing the anger. We were taking away the Serquel for the intivitu, but I stopped the intivitu because of his constant sleeping. My son weighs 155 pds. As far as the Abilify, I saw a wonderful difference in the agression, plus he started sleeping well at night. What also helped us, is we started sending both of them to a behavior therapist. They have weekly visits. It has helped alot. Your physician that oversees the ADD meds will probably work with he or she for the best results with medication. Another thought, my son ended up being dignosised with depression from his old medication (medidate). We had to stop them for a while and start Lexapro for the depression. He doesn't take it anymore. We reworked the ADD cocktail and he learned through therapy how to voice to me how each medication makes him feel. I hope this helps.

My son has anger issue as well. I'm a bit relcuent to put my son on any abilify or something else that my ENT suggested to try on my son for his vocal tics but he's only 10 years old and only 89-90 lbs. Pineland in Reidsville GA does not offer weekly therapy for behavorial problems and his last behavorial doctor does not take Amerigroup. So I'm SOL on how to get my son help. :( I've done the best I can since his diagnoses.

Try Concerta as that is what is helping my son (10 yo) as he has ADD/ADHD and he has been on it since he was in kindergarten (so 4 yrs.). O/wise it is very chaotic, not a good thing for him, me or his sister (she is 8 yo). As we have taken the majority of his anger, yelling, throwing, defiant behavior and he threatened to "kill a classmate with a knife" or "cut a girls' throat" and other things such as non stop flying off the walls from 4 or 5 am until 8 or 9 pm. It was hell....we have never tried anything else but the Concerta as it is fast-acting usually within 20-30 mins. I didn't want something to be built up in his system, I needed the results right away.
We still have some problems with behavior, being defiant, yelling, arguing BUT nothing like before. I was so stressed out, unbearable and I do work full time outside the home. It is a competition for him and sister to get my attention...give Concerta a try...
