"Independence Village Petoskey was my mom's home for almost 4 years! Mom had been paralyzed on her right side from a stroke for the past 25 years. My father cared for her most of that time but when he passed away, mom needed a place to live where she would not bealone. We were so glad to find this beautiful place, what a blessing it became! I spent a lot of time visiting her there and joining in on many of the programs and classes; what a wonderful place! It is a beautiful building in gorgeous Petoskey, but the most beautiful part of this place is the people! Mom made lots of wonderful friends and in many cases new "family".
The residents are wonderful, friendly, happy people who help to keep the place going, from welcome committees, to cards and games and wine time daily at 3:00. There is something going on all the time, from Sunday worship to arts and crafts classes, music, trivia competitions, book clubs and more! With the handicapped accessible bus, they can attend concerts, art shows, lunches and go shopping or to appointments around town.
I cannot say enough about the people who work here! They are friendly and kind people who really strive to help the people who live here and their families! Many feel like family to me still. From administration/office, desk/reception, maintenance /housekeeping, activities, salon staff, chef, wait and kitchen staff, and drivers everyone treats you with respect and kindness. The Resident assistants (RAs) were amazing! My mom was extra work but they loved her and treated her like she was their own mom or grandma, so patient and kind! I didn't need to worry about her care and safety because they were all there for her! I strongly recommend Independence Village to anyone seeking a new home for themselves or a family member! ... show more
