I have owned and been around dogs and cats my whole life, as well as a few hamsters, at least two guinea pigs, a slew of bored-looking goldfish, betas, and at least one bird that only didn't work out because the dog--no, not the cat but the dog--decided it looked pretty delicious. I take my senior care philosophy with me into pet sitting, which is to treat my client's animals like family members, and my two puppies queens of our apartment. They're played with, walked, loved and fawned over, given space when they want it. I'm well versed in dog social cues, especially the "whale eye" they give when they don't want you around. And above all, I believe in leaving them happy and tired at the end of the day, because a worn out dog doesn't indulge in nearly as much destructive behavior or barking--exactly what you don't need to see and hear coming home from work.
