About Valerian

I first started caring for seniors who were intellectually and developmentally disabled (I/DD) about 8 years ago. I was there for about a year working full-time. Communication was always a challenge, and I developed a clear, empathetic, and person-centered mode of communicating around their wants and needs. I'm very task-oriented, but always make sure that doesn't get in the way of a client feeling heard, safe, and cared for. Since then, I've worked in adjacent fields such as customer food service. I also completed my B. S. in Biology. I returned to the field about a year ago and have only honed my skills since. I am a patient teacher, decent cook, gentle when I give bed baths and apply compression garments, and kind when answering questions about myself. I am a creative problem-solver and am a little bit handy as well. I learned to drive when I was 14 in Alaska's ice and snow, so almost no weather will prevent me from coming on time. Seniors have a lot to give, and so do I.
