When I was three, my parents split up, and I moved in with my grandmother and Aunt. Sadly, my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. I didn't understand it as a child, but I grew to comprehend it later on. When I turned 18, my mother assigned me the responsibility of helping my aunt care for my grandmother. I had to blend her food in a blender, wash dishes, sweep, dust, handle accidents, help with bathing and dressing her, and keep an eye on her while my aunt ran errands. My grandmother's declining health made me sad. I missed seeing her in the kitchen, especially her baking teacakes, and looking after my sister and me when we were young. Eventually, my grandmother became bedridden for many years, which was heartbreaking. After being bedridden for years, she passed away in January of 2000. To this day, I will never forget her compassion. She loved people and life.
