When I was 17, my grandfather came to live with us. He no longer could care for himself or be alone. My mother and I took care of him for nine years. His mental health and physical capabilities deteriorated more over those years. His room was downstairs alongside of mine, and all night he would yell out for help with everything. They are sometimes angry, cantankerous, or afraid. My grandfather would be paranoid and afraid at times for no reason. I have a lot of patience. Seniors also need stimulation, to converse and think. The less they do, the less they can do. I really respect seniors. I recently worked with a wonderful 96-year-old man who was blind and deaf, providing him care with whatever he needed; doctor appointments, dispensing meds, haircuts, and true friendship. Upon request I could provide a reference with the family. It's a wonderful feeling to help someone.
