After working with special needs persons, I have come to realize that polite conversations is good way of interacting with persons with special needs. Being extra observant, being flexible, being positive and having a plan and a back-up plan has helped me to have quality and exciting moments with persons with special needs. During the 6 months I have worked as a home health aide, my client who besides being old, is also battling with multiple sclerosis. It gives me pride working with such persons because at the end of the day, I build in them a sense of hope and a sense of belonging by making them feel they are special and can achieve anything.
