I grew up with 17 cats, 3 dogs and a smattering of black bears, racoons, and deer. Okay, well maybe not the wild animals, but I was surrounded by cats and dogs for as long as I can remember. I learned from a very young age the joy, discipline, and steadiness of caring for animals. As our family animals aged, I learned to give medicine to, bathe, and take care of animals with less pep in their step. More recently, my brother and his fiance adopted a sweet dog from the shelter and I have learned the ins and outs of dog training, from holding firm and consistent boundaries to socializing her with other dogs.
