I've spent all my life helping to care for my older sister who has Down Syndrome. She inspired me to become a caregiver at 18 years old and I have done so off and on since then. I see care giving as a partnership, as a caregiver I am there to stand next to my consumer as a support to help them achieve their goals in any way possible while also garnering a sense of independence and empowerment. Every person deserves the opportunity to experience a fulfilling life and as a caregiver, I take immense pride in being a part of that for someone. As a sibling of someone with a disability, I hold myself to a higher standard, always keeping in mind how I would want my sister to be treated and uplifted. Very covid conscious. First vaccine 2/4.
