I personally spend a lot of time with my mom who is in her upper 60's. Although she's self sufficient I go to all of her doctor appointments and make sure she has all of her medicine. This includes taking her to pick up prescriptions and organizing them in her pill organizer. I check on her throughout the day just to talk about the weather or any interesting tv shows and movies she's been watching. Mom and I have two dates a week. We grocery shop at Walmart on Mondays to get mainly fruit, cheese and crackers because it's her favorite snack. On Saturdays we go to thrifting (goodwill stores) and Giant Eagle to get more snacks. The main point is to spend time and get her out of the house to stay active. It's only store runs but to her it's a goodtime and we're having a "date". I have the same compassion for any elder. Sometimes they just need a companion to talk about their hobbies (planting, reading, walking, family, pets). I like to engage in conversations making them feel special.
