I had guardianship of my 3-year-old grandson since I brought him home from the NICU, premature and addicted to opiates. He was severely developmentally disabled with over 30 different diagnoses. The two prominent ones were schizencephaly and quadriplegic cerebral palsy. He did not walk, talk, sit up, roll over, or hold his head up, but his smile lit up a room. He took over 15 different medications and was GJ tube fed. He required extensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy. I was repeating what his therapists did each week ever since I brought him home. I had been stretching him and working with him in his braces and stander. Seizure recognition, protocol are also a part of my experience. I have a medical degree and have worked in the medical field for the past 20 years. I have several certifications and am currently a respite care provider for military families with special needs children. All of my families have children with autism.
