Working both in private and government social work, many of the children I assisted had mental or physical limitations. I was passionate about ensuring that I could aid to their successes in excelling in over all life; not just with their families, but also as individuals. Many of them had aspiring goals that they wanted to achieve and just needed someone to guide, direct, and encourage them in a way that they would respond positively. It was challenging learning how to meet them on their level. A lot of times what motivated one, did not necessarily motivate the other. It is important to me to see them lead by their design, to be encouraged to excel with the giftings that they naturally have. I find if you can find a way to communicate with what motivates them, you get them to respond positively to what you are wanting them to do. This also aids the gap between you and the parent. The goal ultimately is to build a bridge with the parent(s) in what they are doing to raise their family and to incorporate those beliefs in maintaining a smooth household in whatever I am assisting that family with. Sometimes the parents have many circumstances effecting the home environment and just need that extra person to step in and encourage the family and apply the rules and principles that they are wanting mainly for the care of the child(ren). Having that balance is so delicate, but it can make all the balance in being able to impact one child's life.
