About Syl

I am excited to tutor all stages of the writing process (brainstorming, finding a topic, outlining, drafting, editing, proofreading). I have worked with a range of students and independent writers- from the third grade level to graduate work. I have experience working in a writing center for two universities in which I helped students write and edit papers for undergraduate coursework. I have also tutored in reading, whether it's helping people learn to read (special education and non-native English speakers included), teaching how to absorb main points from the content and learning how to translate thoughts and questions that arise while reading into material useful for writing papers. I also like helping students, especially children and young adults, find joy in reading! I have my MA in Philosophy (I also completed 5 years of a PhD program in Philosophy). I also have my BS in Chemistry and worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 7 years. As a result, I also tutor Chemistry.
