We hired Stephanie as a part-time nanny for our 3.5 month old after a successful trial. We confirmed three times that she could commit to at least 6 months and was comfortable caring for a child his age, which she agreed to. We were open and honest about our expectations, including that she give us a 2 week heads up if she could no longer work for us. After ensuring her commitment, we canceled daycare. However, after just 4 days, she abruptly informed us she had accepted another offer and gave only a 1 day notice. This left us without childcare and insufficient time to find a replacement. While we try to give the benefit of the doubt, this situation has put us in a really tough spot, and we don’t want this to happen to another family.
