I took a paraprofessional position at an MPS middle school last November. I worked in the same classroom until school ended last week. I was a one on one para for a student who is non verbal with autism. I assisted him throughout the day assisting with class transitioning, eating, joining activities, and taking walks. I assisted in hand over hand writing and art activities and encouraged him to stand up and stretch and sometimes to dance which he enjoyed. I had the pleasure of watching him make such great progress and become happier in general. I also have patience and a calm demeanor with special needs people and have raised my own son who has Asperger's and is now a college student.
