My uncle has cerebral palsy and my cousin has Down syndrome. I have had experience with these two types of disabilities. I am patient and reliable. My cousin is 11 and very high functioning. He is so adorable and brings many smiles to my face =). We have had our rough days, who hasn't? But with patients and perseverance we can accomplish anything. That's how I work with patients and perseverance, you need to be able to understand, the people you care for are PEOPLE. They need guidance that's all =) My uncle on the other hand is a 42-year-old male who was very strong. He had a good demeanor about him and also a loving guy. On his down days I have seen him get very aggressive. This is important because if you can handle someone during an aggressive state, then you can surly be helpful during the best times. He was very strong and used crutches. His upper arms were huge, he began to throw thing and get upset, so I used to sing with him to calm him down. He loves 102. 9 on the radio so I put that on and sing my heart out. He calmed rite down and was on a positive note for the rest of his day. Patience and perseverance and thinking out of the box is key. Thanks so much.
