I have experience caring for several special children. I cared for a child with juvenile diabetes where I checked blood sugar (finger pricks), administered insulin shots, & planned meals according to carbs limit. I have cared for two children with autism (both on different ends of the spectrum) where I took the children to & from therapy & worked closely with speech & occupational therapists in order to continue the therapy myself at home. I cared for a child (beginning at age 1 year) with a GI tube & was responsible for tube feedings and cleanings. When he turned 2 years old, I took him to the Marcus Institute every day for 8 weeks to teach him how to eat by mouth. I was taught the strict protocol to follow and was responsible for teaching the parents what I had learned and how to do it themselves. I had to calculate the exact intake of food by weight, many times having to subtract the food that came back up. I have also cared for children with ADD and ADHD.
