I've worked with 2 special needs children in the past. One I helped get ready in the morning and walked him to school. He was autistic, non-verbal and behavior issues that I helped him and his family overcome by holding him to a higher standard. A typical shift with him would be toilet assistance, dressing, play, and book reading and of course breakfast. Before I came in they tended to waste lot of food because there was no telling what he would eat. But through talking and demonstration I got him to stop wasting food. From working with that family that I just one of our successes. Another Child I worked with, he has Charge Syndrome which comes with a list of issues but the most prominent would be his balance, deafness, and autism. I worked with his in his school work by helping his focus as well as finding a routine that worked well for him. I also am fluent in American Sign which was a big help. In conclusion I enjoyed those jobs and would like to continue that type of work.
