My style of caregiving is empathic. I put myself in my client's shoes, so to speak. I am a senior myself. I know what it's like to be old-er(!) I am an active listener and proactive in my caregiving. I promote creativity, activity (exercising our bodies, our memory, hobbies/interests and having fun!) I can create care plans, nutrition/eating healthier. I encourage self care and autonomy (doing things for oneself when appropriate and safe). I don't baby or patronize my clients and at the same time I have compassion and patience for their process and meet them "where they are" in their journey of aging. I will take on as much or as little as the family members desire: from hiring plumbers, to paying the gardener, purchasing supplies, keeping daily notes, communicating with physicians, etc. The most meaningful purpose I have in a caregiving position is to enhance the quality of my client's life, to make a difference. To be a friend, a confidante, and care give.
