At the age of 19 I had to become a mother due to an unfortunate situation in my family. I raised my loving nephew from ages 2-6 and 9-12 which taught me a lot about children with special needs. For example; he was verbally delayed and diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder. He used very little verbal skill communication, using two words and babble patterns, and when frustrated he would use his hands to express his feelings. I begin to realize a lot of frustration within my nephew was not able to express his words. Increasing my education taught me speech or language impairment your hands become your mouth. Throughout my 10+ years of teaching (Daycare's/Charter & Public schools), I learned it is important to have patience, schedule adequate and quality time, and provide love/concern. In my eyes a child is a child, whether they need special help or are more independent, both cannot develop on their own to their fullest potential without love and attention from their car
