Experience: 2 yrs
I'd describe my personality as bubbly/energetic, well mannered/polite, dependable, compassionate, diverse, thoughtful, giving, and kind. I got into this job field because I enjoy making a connection with those I help. My husband says it's because of the person I am. I can connect with people of all ages, background, and ethnicities. I adapt well to my surroundings whether that be a place or people. I'm was born and raised in Hawaii. I'm a firm believer in two things; 1.) everything happens for a reason & 2.) accept the things you can't change and change the things you can. My skills include taking care of dementia patients/clients, Parkinson's, mobility issues, wound care, bathing including sponge bathing, bed bound, hospice, feeding, housekeeping, cooking, shopping/running errands, & much more! **Rates start at $22 an hour and go up depending on the needs of the person. (I can't change my expectation rate for whatever reason on my profile so my rates do NOT start at $14)**

My husband had a catastrophic brain stem stroke in January which resulted in hospitalization in ICU and intermediate care for 6 weeks plus 3 months in a skilled rehab facility with his tracheostomy, severe dysphagia (inability to swallow) and horrible vertigo which are the symptoms of such a stroke. We are retired and had no one to assist us so we turned to Care dot com. So far we have met and hired two wonderful caregivers on a part time basis. Shawnna immediately connected with my husband and her gentle care means so much to us. If there is a unique problem to be solved, she thinks outside the box to devise a resolution. An example was the arranging of furniture and personal items to avoid fall risk where we had not figured this out. She is expert at bathing, dressing and interacting with my husband. She helps him immensely and after he was hospitalized nearly 5 months, arranged a regular early morning wheelchair ride to see local gardens in our neighborhood. Shawnna helps me tremendously to streamline the process for laundry, furniture arrangements, and cleaning. We see our collaboration going on in the future as my husband's strength is slowly returning but we could not live as comfortably as we do without such a helpful and professional person.
