Shamika was a decent caregiver during a very difficult period with our baby - she performed her job competently, and we had no issues with her performance as a nanny. We did however, have issues with Shamika's reliability. At $25/hr, she as a fair bit more expensive that many of the caregivers on this site, but this above-average pricing did not translate to particularly exceptional service. Instead, in the last month alone, Shamika seemed to have a number of seemingly calamitous life events happen one after the other - the death of a family member, flight delays, medical emergencies, etc. that resulted in us having to utilize a backup care giver for multiple weeks in a row. On two of those three weeks, she cancelled on us with extremely short notice, citing that she would be unavailable for several days at a time. On one of those instances, we actively had to reach out to her to figure out whether she would be coming or not, only to find out that she was not available (despite previously leading us to believe that she would be). As two working parents of a newborn, this sort of unreliability is unacceptable, and we ultimately chose to terminate services with her in favor of a more reliable caregiver. Based on our experiences with her over the course of the last month, we would not rehire Shamika, nor would we recommend her to our friends and family.
