In my years of assisting with children I have been a part of many programs that include children with special needs. However, my most memorable experience would be with my silent princess who is a 7-year-old with Rett syndrome (a form of Autism). Working with her truly became my passion. It was a true journey working with her mom and physical therapist to improve her motor skills and verbal skills. In the duration of my care for her she was able to do so many things that just months before seemed impossible. Working with children with Autism, Down Syndrome or any other special needs definitely has its challenges along the road but it is well worth it once progress is shown. I learned through working with her that care giving is not just a job but it is a relationship and commitment that will always be driven by love.
