Growing up with family members who possess cognitive and physical differences made me become a strong and passionate disability rights advocate. I am passionate about providing the best quality care for all individuals which is why I hope to become a pediatric occupational therapist. I am a trained Certified Nurse assistant and this previous summer I worked on the memory care unit of a skilled nursing facility in northern Michigan. I also volunteer at Misericordia Heart of Mercy as a yoga assistant, helping residents to become more independent and mobile through adaptive exercises. Moreover, I volunteered over 20 hours as a recreational volunteer at Almost Home Kids in which I engaged with children experiencing medically complex needs through employing sensory toys, puzzles and reading books depending on the developmental level of the child.
