I grew up being a friend and part-time caregiver to my younger cousin who has down syndrome. I knew growing up that I wanted to be a great advocate for people with disabilities, just like my aunt was for my cousin. When I was in high school, I pursued my interest in helping others with special needs by becoming a PE leader in a class with students with disabilities and joining Best Buddies, a club for fostering friendships for people with disabilities. In college I studied Special Education and I taught students with varying abilities in elementary, middle, and high school. The past two years I worked at an elementary school in a resource room where I taught small group math, writing, and reading groups. I am very passionate about helping individuals with special needs lead fulfilling and happy lives. I am hoping to continue helping individuals of all ability levels learn the skills they need to live joyful and successful lives.
