I have a BA with a double major in Art and Elementary Education. I have been a preschool teacher then Director, and the Supervisor of Youth and Family Programming for a local community center. I have had the opportunity to include special needs students in my after-school classes and in the large day camp I directed. Every summer I had 3 or 4 "special care" campers (with at least 2 diagnoses each) whom I had direct responsibility for. I made sure the young adult aides did everything to support the camper appropriately throughout the camp day. I recently left this position with an impeccable record of transparency and a perfect safety record. Even when I was the Supervising Director I keep a foot in the classroom teaching 2 art enrichment classes a week, one after school Lego Club, and scheduling myself 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the childcare room on Thursdays. "Don't ask someone to do a job you wouldn't do " ... but I really do it because kids teach me so much and keep me energized! I was responsible for the safe operation of the "child-sitting room" for ages 6 weeks to 6 years old while the parents used the community center. Those little ones are great. I have 4 years experience as a 2s teacher, 5 years with the 3s, and more than 10 with 4s and kindergarten. I have 20 summers with school-aged children. Family pets are great. Our 2 children are on their own now but I always enjoyed helping them discover new skills through play and encouragement. I have a clean driving record and the large top of the line Jeep Commander. Recently I tutored a second grader in reading and mathematics and another 4th grader in research methods on the computer. I offer a professional demeanor but your kids will think I am just plain fun to be with!
