We hired Riley for a full time nanny position after interviewing her in person and she started this past week Wednesday. She worked for 1 day and texted at 9:30pm Wed night to say she was having medical issues and would not be able to come the next day. We texted her back and said no problem and hope she was ok and would feel better soon. Got no response, which is fine cause it was late, but I followed up the next day to see how she was doing. She finally texted back and said that she needed surgery so she wouldn't be available for a while. Very out of the blue but I understand things can come up, she just seemed perfectly when when was here the day before and then suddenly a doctor tells her she needs surgery the same day? I tried calling and texting her to see what that meant and if she was trying to say she just didn't want the job. I'd prefer honesty. No response, absolutely nothing back from her. So I am not sure if she was truthful but definitely she was not reliable. Although she was friendly, there were several times I had to text multiple times to see if she even got my text so to us, just not the reliability we need in a nanny. Now we had to urgently scramble to find another nanny because we both work full time and she essentially abandoned us. I think if the medical reason was legit she would have at least texted back at some point to say she couldn't do the job anymore. She also didn't seem to be familiar with changing diapers, which we thought was strange for someone wanting to be a nanny for a 2 year old. I just wish she was upfront with us.
